A project developed by Schmidt which targets to establish the Internet of Things (IoT) in China’s tobacco supply chain via RFID tags, sensor devices, visual recognition, GPS and wireless network, has out-competed hundreds of submitted entries and won the award of “Best Use of RFID” and the silver award of “Best Use of RFID” in Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Awards 2011 and Guangdong RFID Awards 2011 respectively. The project enables a fully visible and manageable supply chain in the tobacco industry through RFID technology to tackle problems in data collection, tracking, processing and analysis during tobacco production. This project benefits tobacco enterprise in optimizing logistics flows and increasing productivity to realize the modernization of logistics in agriculture. It also contributes in raising peasants’ income which is one of the country’s economic goals.
